anyone make their own granola bars and have a recipe or few? i'm so frustrated trying to find some with a fiber content higher than the sugar. even certified organic and kashi do not. one package of some kind i hadn't heard of before but was in the 'nature's place' section that i looked at today even had trans fats in it.
so far the best i've found are kashi TLC soft baked apple spice bars at 3g fiber and 9g of sugar. i wish that were reversed though! :)

I just started eating raw granola bars. They're delicious!
It's a new raw company. Go to their website and they will send you 5 free bars- you just have to pay for the shipping! http://www.goraw.com/
They have around 8-10g protein (depending on the bar) and under 20g of sugar.....they dont actually add processed sugar to the bars (again, they're raw) the sugar comes from stuff like raisins, bananas and dates :)
YUM!

Larabars are my fave. they're just pure raw fruits and nuts.
i wonder if you could find a whole-grain cereal that you like (better chance of getting that fiber:sugar ratio you're looking for) and just use some kind of binding agent (peanut butter?) to make them into bars?

Thanks for the link, Terra! Saw some spirulina chips that looked yummy. Which ones are your favorites that you have tried?

I like the live pumpkin and the live granola.
The banana fax is interesting.
their gingersnaps are good.

i'm not much of a cook, but i could see me making my own at some point. i'm sure there are recipes out there.
thanks for the links, they do look delicious. i'm not finding the actual nutrition content, if you guys have a bar with a label handy, i'd be curious.

i've been making a sort-of granola but more of a nut bar kinda thing...
i use all unsalted nuts and seeds - almonds, pumpkin seeds, cashews, sesame seeds, (my faves) spread 'em on a cookie sheet (if you have a sil pat that's the best, otherwise coat with oil of your choice) pour agave nectar all over them (amount depends on amount of nuts, seeds...) i have seasoned it with so many various spices to include but not limited to - garlic, cayenne, cinnamon, cardamom, onion powder.
the best results come if you bake in a very low oven overnight - as low as your oven will go. then break up and don't store until completely cooled. i suppose you could use any kind of cereal as well as dried fruits too!

i'm fortunate in that our hannafords are certified organic supermarkets and they have great organic produce, a terrific "natures place" section and organic options on the regular shelving areas as well. it's currently my saving grace i think since we don't have a whole foods or even a trader joes.
