LOL
AWESOME!
Thank you Karen. This makes me feel less crazy. Cause sometimes (most times) I feel crazy.
We've been planning off and on for a bit. We've already visited and selected our venue and met with the wedding coordinator there. he's letting us secure a date before our deposit is submitted (which is great considering the recent fiasco with my "bonus") but we dont have an official date yet.
Ive talked with my mother about budget stuff, though not my father yet- Stephen needs to ask his permission first, and he wont do that without a ring :funny1:
The ring is just a formality anyway. As much as I would love it on my finger NOW. It will come eventually. :)

Not crazy at ALL! LOL The ring is a lovely formality though :) I intially told JP I did not want a ring but boy was I glad when he didn't listen! It's just a symbol I know, but every time I look at it I get the most wonderful feeling! I'll wear it forever....
Sounds like your plans are going well - good for you and good luck!

I guess it went really well. They love me, they're excited. They just think it's all bad timing due to the economy....(to spend money on a ring and the wedding  ) They said they would fully support us going to vegas or to city hall.
I do NOT want to go to Vegas or city hall.

well, terra, WE support your decision NOT to go to vegas or city hall. its YOUR wedding not theirs, just remember that. mucho love lady!

And now Stephen thinks they're right.
The economy is too bad for us to "officially" get engaged or he buys a ring. :zip:
I wonder if people just stopped getting married and engaged during the great depression?

They elope. They do make valid points. A wedding is so expensive no matter the size. Start planning it for like 2011 or something. Things'll be better by then for sure. How long have you been together? Sometimes waiting is a really good idea. :) We waited 5 years, and i'm so glad we did. Everyone kept asking, "Don't ya think it's time?" It's a sure thing by that time.
I totally didn't tell you *anything* you wanted to hear, did I?
HoopsTer
01-15-2009, 04:38 PM
We're looking at 2010 dates.
The thing is, my parents would be paying 80% of it. *shrugs*
I totally understand where they're coming from, but I dont think it's possible to wait to be debt free. Certainly not with the amount of loans I have.
And if we want to have children, waiting for 5 years isnt an option. I will be 40 in 5 years. :plain:
Wende
01-15-2009, 05:43 PM
Right? Totally undy that. I honestly did not know you were my age. I thought you were way younger. I apologize. I can understand your wanting to do it soon. If you have found the right one, why wait? Gotcha. :)
your parents are stepping up? Then who cares what the other set of parents say. ;)

ah it's ok. :) He's a financial advisor and he has a right to be freaked out right now, I totally understand! And I definitely dont mind waiting for a nice sparkley ring. But I dont want to stop planning and if we dont secure the venue soon all the dates are going to be gone. Right now the date we want is still available. Even his mom said go ahead and 'plan' but we cant do anything soon...which again, is fine. Im not talking soon! Im talking over a year away! It will all pick up and this recession will be a glimmer in our memory. I have faith :)

Finances can be a stressful part of a wedding...but then again you can keep it simple! Even with the ring :)
JP and I are planning a small family only wedding (which includes 8 friends which are 'family'). We actually don't want to have a wedding (with guests and stuff), we'd love to elope, but the family really wants the event. So, we are keeping it simple and affordable. More than we would spend if we eloped but it won't break the bank either....
Good luck!

I TOTALLY understand! My bf and I have been togeather for almost 9 years, and though he has "asked" me unofficialy, no ring, andno plans. I am 35 yeard old. I dont want my decisions to be taken away from me because of time .

I could keep it simple, but I'm not necessarily a simple girl :funny1: I HATE the idea of eloping. I want a big party with all of my loved ones. It's very important to me, and it's also very important to my mother. I am an only child. it's all planned in my head, it's just a matter of time. And all things will happen when they are supposed to. :)
I just need this whole economic crisis in America to end! :ravn:

And a beautiful, big party you shall have! Especially being an only child, you're mom must be very excited :)
I'm the youngest of six...I have two neices that are already married so we've had a LOT of family weddings over the past 20 years :)
BTW our small wedding is around 60 people, 50 of which are family. Not so small! All of my siblings had an average of 100 at theirs so I figure I am getting off easy

Hold out hun until you can the wedding you really want. Dont stop planning and enjoy the details as much as you can. Give time a chance to be on your side. You met the man you're meant to be with -- some of the hard part is over. Just try to enjoy as much of it as you can!
I love the pinecone cake! Reminds me of the best wedding cake I've ever seen. Check out the movie Catch & Release if you haven't already. First scenes of the movie-- I sooo want that cake one day. I think you'll like it to.

yeah, it's all going to happen. The Universe is opening doors! :)
My heath counselor told me to pin up my dream dress on my mirror in my bedroom and think about it every day along with a couple of other things. That will kick it all into gear so much faster. < /endgeek >
I have seen Catch & Release (that's jennifer garner, right?) but I dont remember the cake...

I have a vision board that I made about a year and a half ago. I put things on there about meeting someone (I met Stephen) about IIN (I'm now enrolled) about yoga (I'm now certified). It really works!!
I need to start a new one with my new goals! Maybe that can be a weekend project soon

So,
I just got an email from my dream venue. - The place stephen and I visited in November and decided was the place.
Unfortunately they lost the funding for the wedding barn they were building. Stupid economy. This changes everything  My dream is a winter wedding and I really want an outdoor ceremony, but I do NOT want a tented reception in the winter...and they can only accomodate 100 inside. This makes me really sad. MountainTop Inn (with a wedding barn) was perfect for us.
So, we're on the hunt for another venue or another season/date.

But you are far away aren't you? Will more than 100 people really travel that far and wide? Maybe you can make is smaller, considering it's your dream. Or, of course, there is always going to be something just as perfect for you out there. I am sure of it.

I am far away. My family is not far away. They are all within an hour and a half from the site. (Essex and Warren County NY and Burlington, VT) My immediate family on my mother's side alone is 50+ people. And that doesn't include my step family, or family on my father's side bridal party and friends. Having family and friends there is definitely more of a dream than the site. Something else will come along, I'm sure.
